Excursion Wednesday, September 18th 2019

Participants will be accompanied along a tour from the Euganean Hills to the Riviera del Brenta, to visit magnificent examples of Italian historic architecture: the Castello del Catajo and Villa Pisani.

The Castello del Catajo stands tall on the road leading from Padova to Battaglia Terme. This overshadowing structure, rich in history, charm and legends, was built to celebrate the Obizzi family and, at the time of its maximum magnificence, hosted one of the largest collections of archaeological findings in the Veneto Region. There are many characteristics of this building, a combination of military lodgings, lords’ accommodation and a feudal castle.

Villa Pisani, the "Queen" of the –worldwide renowned venetian villas, is one of the main tourist attractions in the Veneto Region. This Villa lies along the Brenta river bank, an ideal extension of Venetian Gran Canal on the land, 10 minutes away from Padua and 20 from Venice.

It is a National museum hosting 18th and 19th masterpieces, e.g. the Gianbattista Tiepolo’s, “The Glory of the Pisani family”, a fresco on the ballroom ceiling . "Every step is a new sight and a new beauty", an enthusiastic traveller in the nineteenth century described Villa Pisani garden.

The garden is enchanting with its flamboyant sights, original architecture, its famous maze, its greenhouses with plants and flowers.

Social Dinner Thursday, September 19th 2019

The MeVArc 2019 Social Dinner will be held on Thursday September 19th evening at Caffè Pedrocchi at the first floor or “Piano Nobile”, in “Sala Rossini”. https://www.caffepedrocchi.it/

The Caffè Pedrocchi is one of the smartest cafés in the world, included in a 19th century building in the centre of Padova, northern Italy. Its rooms are decorated in various styles and show the great eclecticism of its designer, the architect Giuseppe Jappelli. The café is worldwide renowned as the meeting point of great artists such as the French novelist Stendhal, the English poet Lord Byron, the Italian Nobel prize winner Dario Fo. Since its foundation, this coffee-house is a meeting point for professors and student, students allowed to meet freely in the Sala Verde (Green Room).
