Anna International Airport  at Chennai is about 16km from the Institute of Mathematical Sciences.  Chennai is well connected to Europe and US via Dubai and Singapore.  And there are frequent flights to major cities in India, namely Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kolkata which are well connected to Europe, US and rest of Asia.

Getting here

From the airport

The Chennai Airport is located in Meenambakkam, about 16km from IMSc. Chennai has one airport with the Anna international terminal and the Kamaraj domestic terminal. They are separated by a few hundred metres.

There are many pre-paid taxi stands inside the aiport that charge a flat rate of Rs. 500 - 600 for a trip into the city. You can use the address and landmarks above to make your booking.

You can also take a public transport from the airport to reach IMSc. The suburban train station, Tirusulam, is located just across the main highway near the airport and can be accessed via an underpass.

You can take a train headed into the city ('towards Beach') to Guindy from where IMSc is a 5km auto rikshaw ride away.

Alternately, you can take the train to Chennai Beach station and switch to the MRTS line 'towards Velachey' upto Indiranagar. IMSc is a short walk way, across the main road.

From the Central railway station

The main train station is Chennai, Chennai Central, is located in Park town about 16km from IMSc.

There are pre-paid autorickshaw and pre-paid taxi booths located near the main exit of the station. You can use the address and landmarks above to make your booking.

You can also use public transport from the station to reach IMSc: walk up the bridge across from the main entrance/exit of the station to the MRTS 'Park Town station'. Take the train heading 'towards Velachery' upto Indiranagar. IMSc is a short walk way, across the main road.

Alternately, there are some bus services from right outside the main entrance/exit of the station, that will bring you close to IMSc, including the very frequent 1A to Adyar Depot which is about 1.5km from IMSc.

 From the Egmore railway station

Some trains terminate at Chennai Egmore station, which is roughly the same distance as Central from IMSc. There are autoriksaws available outside the station.

If you are taking public transport, you can take 6D and 21D to the Indira Nagar water tank a short walk from CIT campus. You can also take buses 23C, 23A and 29L to Adyar Depot which is a slightly further away.

From Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus

CMBT is located in Koyambedu, about 14km from IMSc. You can get taxis and autoriksaws to take you from there to IMSc.

There are also many buses (including 19, 21, 5T) which will take you to Tidel park or Madhya Kailash which are at a distance of 1km from IMSc.

Getting here from Tambaram (train station or bus terminus)

Tambaram is about 20km from IMSc. You can get taxis to take you from there to IMSc.

There are also many buses (including 19, 91, 91V) which will take you to Tidel park which is at a distance of 1km from IMSc.

Getting around

In addition to the usual call taxis and autorikshaws, Chennai has an excellent bus system: buses are frequent and very inexpensive. The MRTS and metro lines run pretty regularly but at the current time, only service a select set of routes.
