Accompanying teachers

  • The 2 accompanying teachers are with the students during all trip and internship. They stay in the same hostel than the students.

    You have to fill in a Passenger Location Form for Belgium before boarding the plane to Belgium. More details here.

  • Included are 1 piece of hand baggage + 1 piece of checked baggage of 23 KG
     
  • Fill in the Parent Authorisation to Travel form and have it signed by one parent and certified by local authorities. This form will have to be handed over to your accompanying teachers, Marijke or Cédric.

What to bring with you

  • Clothing (click here to check weather forecast in Switzerland)
  • Toiletries, in particular take your shampoo and shower gel (towels are provided at the Hostel, changed every three days)
  • Hairdryer (can be borrowed at the hostel reception with deposit of 30 CHF)
  • Your personal laptop (if you don't have one, please contact Feza before Monday 18 and we will provide one for you)
  • Your smartphone or camera to record pics of your visits and activities
    Please note that Switzerland is not part of the EU, therefore. Make sure you have proper 4G coverage for Switzerland or switch off data roaming to avoid huge phone bills (e.g.14.52 EUR/MB for Proximus, 6 EUR /MB for Orange and 3 EUR/MB for BASE)
    ! At CERN you will be able to use free Wi-Fi.
  • Swiss plug adapters (can be borrowed at Hostel with a deposit of 10 CHF), only needed for equipment with earthing.

CERN Hostel

  • Individual rooms with bathroom
  • Sheets are changed every six days, and towels every three days.
  • Free WiFi
  • A laundry service is available in the basement of bldg. 41 from Monday to Friday from 8.30-12.00h and from 13.00h to 16.00h. More information is available at the Hostel reception in bldg. 39. 

Meals

  • Please inform Feza by Monday 18 at the latest of any diet restriction or allergy
  • All meals will take place in CERN Restaurant 1, CERN building 40 Cafeteria or outside CERN (official dinner - COVID Certificate required)
  • All meals and the official dinner are covered by CERN
  • Extra breaks or drinks (free time, weekend) are at participants' charge

  • We remind you that you have to be covered by your insurance for illness and accident during your stay at CERN

COVID-19

  • Travelling to Switzerland
    • Use TravelCheck to verify your own situation
    • Compulsory testing on entry for travellers who have not been vaccinated or have not recovered
    • Entry form required for everyone before entering Switzerland but maximum 48h in advance (Passenger Location Form)

    • Make sure you have an EU Digital COVID Certificate which is compatible with the Swiss system

      Being vaccinated does not guarantee that you are not positive to COVID-19 nor transmit it to others. Should you decide to make an extra test before taking the plane would be a good idea, but it is not mandatory. That would be on a voluntary basis to lower any risks for yourself and the group. In such a case, note that CERN would not be in position to reimburse this extra tests.

Check-Out

Friday morning is reserved for the check-out formalities. Don't push them any further as Friday afternoon will be busy with presentations and some CERN services close early on Friday afternoon.

  • Return your bicycle back to the Mobility Center if you had borrowed one
  • Return your CERN badge, proximeter and dosimeter (if you have one) back to building 55 (don't forget to take your CERN visitor card to be allowed back into CERN site)
  • Return any equipment (Personal Protective Equipment, camera, robotic equipment etc) belonging to the lab and project you worked on
  • Return any item you might have borrowed from the Hostel (hairdryer, plug adapter…) back to the Hostel’s Reception
  • Do not forget to fill in the Belgian Passenger Location Form
  • Use any spare time to start packing your stuff, remembering about forbidden items in cabin luggage ;-)

On Friday, during the final presentations:

  • If you had also borrowed a laptop from CERN then please make sure that during the final presentations you have it with you. Feza will collect them at the end of the presentations.
  • In the end of the final presentations, Feza will also collect the chaperon phone from Marijke and Cedric

On Saturday morning before leaving:

  • After breakfast please give your Lunch Check Cards and CERN Hostel card back to the Hostel’s Reception

Information on entering/exiting CERN once you give back your CERN badges:

  • On Friday evening and on Saturday, please use your CERN Visitor Badges, you had received on your arrival (contact François should you have lost it). Make sure you enter/exit CERN through the entrance B which is the only gate where you can use your Visitor Badge.
