How to get to the meeting

How to get to Freiburg:

Freiburg is located in the Rhine valley on the main traffic corridor from Switzerland to Frankfurt. The highway A5 passes by close to Freiburg and every international train from Switzerland to Frankfurt will stop in Freiburg.

The closest airports are Basel, Frankfurt and Stuttgart. Basel is the nearest one but cannot be reached from many places, Stuttgart has direct flights from e.g. several towns in Greece and Frankfurt has connections to and from almost everywhere.

From Basel airport to Freiburg there is a regular bus service (about 1 hour driving time). www.freiburger-reisedienst.de/en/airportbus/timetable.php

From Frankfurt airport there is every hour a train connection to Freiburg; travel time is 2 hours. Sometimes you have to change once in Mannheim.

From Stuttgart airport there is also a train connection every hour. You have to change twice (Stuttgart main station and Karlsruhe) and need about 2:40 hours to get to Freiburg.

If you want to come by car to Freiburg you should be aware that Freiburg is one of the 40 cities in Germany with a so called "environmental green zone". This means you need a special sticker to qualify your car as "environmentally benign" to enter the zone. There is NO EXCEPTION of this rule for cars with foreign plates! Violation of this rule can be fined by 40€! There are two possibilities to avoid this:

1) You can order this sticker in your language from umwelt-plakette.de/foreign_cars.php.

2) You can leave your car outside of the town on one of the Park and Ride facilities and use public transportation to reach the city. Look at www.baden24.de/extern/freiburg_online_e/frameset_b24_top.asp , then click on "Tourism & Transport" and then on "Park and Ride" for a map where these facilities are located.

How to get to the collaboration meeting:

The meeting takes place at the Natural Sciences Campus of the University which is in a walking distance from the main station (15 min) and inner city (10min). The area is marked yellow on the following map: www.uni-freiburg.de/universitaet-en/kontakt-und-wegweiser/lageplaene where you also can see the main station (Hauptbahnhof) and the acces road from the highway (Autobahn-Zubringer Mitte; B31).

The lecture hall will be in the Weismann-Haus (Number 29) on the following map: www.uni-freiburg.de/universitaet-en/kontakt-und-wegweiser/lageplaene/natural-science-campus. You get there from the town by following the Rotteckring via Fahnenbergplatz and Katharinenstraße. After entering the Natural Sciences Campus it is the 2nd building on the left side.

The smaller conference room used for the parallel session is in the Gustav-Mie-Haus (room 00 018, ground floor) of the Physical Institute, that has number 21b on the same map.
