Black Forest Excursion: 26th of May 13.00 - 18.00

The excursion will be a bus trip across the part of the Black Forest near Freiburg. We will visit St. Peter with the baroque church of a monastery where we will have also a nice view on some of the highest mountains of the Black Forest like Schauinsland, Feldberg and Kandel. Then we will pass through a narrow gorge, the Höllental, which is still one of the main east-west passages through the Black Forest. We will reach the famous holiday places Hinterzarten and Titisee. The latter village is named after the beautiful lake with the same name which is one of the major tourist attractions of the Black Forest. There we will be have some time for shopping (souvenirs etc.) and/or to have a cup of coffee with the famous cherry cake of the Black Forest (you might know some simplified and not authentic version as "forêt noir" from the CERN cafeteria). The tour will continue to as close to the highest mountain of the Black Forest (Feldberg, 1493 m) as you can get by car. On the way back we will come through a village with the wooden houses in the traditional style of the Black Forest, where men and cattle used to live under the same roof, and pass by the Schauinsland (1284 m), the local mountain near Freiburg where you have a panoramic view over Freiburg and the Rhine valley. If the weather is reasonable, you can also see the French Vosges and sometimes even the Alps from here.
