Description
We illustrate how Landau damping manifests itself in synchrotrons with a few applied cases covering longitudinal and transverse instabilities of bunched or coasting beams. We consider notably the impact of non-linear collective forces such as space-charge or beam-beam interactions. Various means of enhancing Landau damping using dedicated RF cavities, magnets or electron lenses are discussed.
