Description

The ESRF machine and experiments require tremendous spatial and temporal stability. They are very often installed on concrete slabs so the stability of these slab surfaces is of paramount importance. Over a number of years, a large number of slab stability studies have been made in a number of different circumstances. We have found that after an initial drying period, slab movements are mainly driven by temperature and specifically by thermal gradient variations. This paper will present our observation and conclusions gained from several different studies made at the ESRF.
