Description
The 5 accelerating sections we measured consist of cells brazed together after being positioned and aligned in a dedicated oven.
The metrological verification made it possible to check the quality of the alignment of the cells after the thermal brazing process and to characterize the bestfit axis of the centers of these as a representative line useful for alignment on the axis of the accelerating machine.
The observation of the splines passing through the cell centers with respect to the bestfit axis for the same of the measured sections highlighted a systematic shape and distribution of errors. We therefore hypothesized a cause and effect of this result.
The characterization of the sections was carried out using four points, two at the beginning and two at the end of the section, with which to align the sections in the positions and with the appropriate orientation on the accelerator machine as usual.
To do this, a portable CMM with a 3mm tip and a commercial support was used to acquire the center of a 1.5 '' sphere compatible with CCRs of the same size used with the Laser Trackers in subsequent alignment activities.
