Location
The Federico Santa María University is located in the city of Valparaíso, Region of Valparaíso, 120 km to the northwest of Santiago, on the Pacific coast. Valparaiso is recognized as a cultural heritage due to its historic charm. Near by is the city of Viña de Mar, the 'Garden City', one of Chile's popular beach resorts, with excellent hotels, restaurants, and shopping areas.
Getting to the region of Valparaíso
The region of Valparaiso is connected to the International Airport of Santiago by the Ruta 68 highway. There are several alternatives to get you from the airport to your Hotel in Valparaiso or Viña del Mar:

Public Transportation: Airport bus (airport to bus station) + Inter-provincial Bus (bus station to Viña del Mar/Valparaíso) + local taxi or Uber/DiDi.
The airport bus stop is located right outside the airport building. There are two service providers:

12:00 AM - 05:00 AM (Mon-Sun), 60 min, service frequency.
Fare: CLP $1.800 (cash only).

05:35 AM – 23:35 PM (MON – SUN),
Mon-Fri: 15-20 min, service frequency.
Sat-Sun-Holidays: 30-40 min, service frequency.
Fare: CLP $1.600 (cash only).
“Pajaritos” is the first bus stop (15-20 min. drive) and it is where you will have to get off to make the connection for the next leg of the trip. You should enter the building and buy an inter-provincial bus ticket to Viña del Mar or Valparaiso, in one of the ticket counters located inside (we suggest the TurBus or Pullman companies). The fare is approximately CLP 9000. When entering the bus, please note that your ticket has a seat number (Spanish: "Asiento") assigned to it. The trip from Pajaritos to Viña del Mar/Valparaíso takes about 90 minutes. Once you arrive at your destiny, you will find taxis parked right outside of the Bus station. You may also book a ride with Uber or DiDi.
Airport Taxi: There is a 24 hour taxi service from the airport, called "Taxioficial". The transfer cost to Viña de Mar/Valparaíso is CLP $105.000 and can carry up to 3 passengers with luggage.

By car: There are several major car rental companies which have their offices in the Airport of Santiago, such as Rentcars and Europcar. The cars are equipped with GPS navigators, so you will easily get to your destination.
Getting around Valparaíso/Viña del Mar
Shuttle service: We will provide a Viña del Mar-Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María-Viña del Mar shuttle service for the duration of the Conference.
Please look out for the Universidad Santa María sign on the windshield of the bus.
List of meeting points:
Public bus system: There are several buses that can take you from your hotel to the Conference venue. Buses that go between Valparaíso and Viña del Mar pass right outside the University with high frequency. Rates go between CLP 380 to CLP 580 (cash only).
Metro-tren: The subway/train service goes from Puerto station (Valparaíso) to the interior of the Region (Limache), and passes right through Viña de Mar. The station closest to the University is Portales station.
To use the train system, you must first purchase a card at one of the counters located in each station. The fare for each trip is approximately CLP 505, depending on the number of zones travelled. The train card can also be used to pay trips in Trolleys and Ascensores (funiculars), Valparaíso´s characteristic public transport system.
