The IBER Conference series started in 1993 by initiative of the late Prof. Gerardo Delgado-Barrio, who served as first President (1988-95) of the Group of Atomic and Molecular Physics (GEFAM) of the Spanish Societies of Physics (RSEF) and Chemistry (RSEQ), and later as RSEF President in the period 1997-2005.
The IBER Conference extended the initial format of the Spanish GEFAM meetings to a larger biannual collaboration with the Portuguese Physics Society (SPF), establishing the first Iberian conference on Atomic and Molecular Physics.
The IBER Conference has run uninterrupted for fifteen editions (except the 2021 Conference, which was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic). The Conference is organized sequentially in a Portuguese and a Spanish city. The IBER Scientific Committee is formed by GEFAM-RSEF/RSEQ and SPF.
