This 5 day workshop has the primary goal of producing a simple, open source tool which allows any theorists with an astrophysical model to fold their model predictions through various instrument responses. Using such a tool it will become possible to:
- Fit any theoretical model against existing data without requiring a knowledge on the instrument/data analysis.
- Test the sensitivity of instruments to distinguish between various theoretical models without requiring a detailed knowledge of the theory.
- Study which existing data is best to distinguish between theoretical models.
The to be developed tool will make use to of the already existing threeml framework to forward fold the theoretical predictions through all currently publicaly available instrument responses for astrophysical gamma-ray detectors. To our knowledge this includes Fermi-GBM, POLAR and Swift, while we also aim to prepare the tool to include the response of instruments such as AstroSAT CZTI which will become available in the near future. Using this, theoritcal model predictions can be studied with respect to both the spectrum and polarization in the keV and MeV energy ranges. The tool will be developed such that it should be possible to include a range of other instrument resonses in the future such as for example, LEAP, COSI, IXPE etc. etc.
In order to develop this tool a 5 day, hands on workshop will be organized in the Swiss alps using funding from the Swiss National Science Fund. This funding is used to invite a total of 10 experts in the field (see details in invited guest tab), who will develop and test the required tool using data from Fermi-GBM and POLAR for both GRB and blazar models.
The workshop will commence with a half day of seminars at the University of Geneva where the various experts will present themselves. This part of the workshop is open to the public. This is followed by 4.5 days of hands on work.
Due to the hands on nature of the workshop only a limited number of additional places will be available. Apart from the 10 invited guests and the 4 organizers from the University of Geneva several places will be available for interested participants.
