Travel fund:
For all the invited participants the travel costs will be fully covered. This includes the flight to Geneva and the transport within Switzerland. Available funds depend on where you are coming from and range from 500 CHF (~500 euro) for those from Europe to 1500 CHF to those from the US (1200 CHF for those from the east coast) and South Africa.
We will all travel together from Geneva to Nendaz on Monday and come back on Friday afternoon. It is therefore probably best for most to arrive on the Sunday before and leave on Friday evening or Saturday. The costs for the hotel (max 150 CHF pp per night) for the night of Sunday to Monday and Friday to Saturday are covered in the costs as well.
For the trip to Nendaz you don't need to worry, we will arrange this on our side.
By air:
By far the closest airport is Geneva airport which has many international flights per day. The workshop venue as well as the city centre are ~30 mins from the airport with public transport*. An alternative is Zurich airport, keep in mind however that it takes an additional 3 hours by train to reach Geneva from there (train tickets cost around 80 CHF). Another option is Lyon, which is also ~3 hours from Geneva (and includes a trip with French trains which are sensitive to strikes).
Travel to conference venue:
Travel to the start of the workshop (Ecole de Physique) by public transport is relatively easy from most of the city. It is within walking distance for those staying in the city center, while busses 2 and 9 stop within 1 minute walking from the entrance. Another option are the various trams, all of which stop within 10 mins walk from the venue (trams 15,17,18 all stop at "plainpalais" which is the closest stop, tram 14 stops at "Junction" which is also <10 mins walk).
Free public transport in Geneva:
It is useful to know that during your stay in Geneva public transport will be for free as long as you stay in a hotel in Geneva. Once you have booked a hotel in Geneva you should get a link sent to you which allows you to download a public transport ticket to your phone which will be valid for the duration of your stay.
