The MUX2011 is the second of a new generation of meetings popular in the HEP community in the late 90’s under the name of MUG. It is organized as a series of educational and information exchange seminars given by experts in industry and from our community on a variety of topics related to microelectronics design for HEP applications.

09:15 → 11:00 SEU effects in deep submicron processes

As feature sizes of modern electronics continue to shrink, the study and mitigation of radiation effects in electronics has become an important part of high-reliability computing. In this talk trends in memory devices, field-programmable gate arrays and microprocessors that cause data corruption or computational failures will be presented. Mitigation methods that attempt to suppress the affect of radiation-induced failures will also be discussed.

16:15 → 17:05 High performance sensor interfaces: Efficient system architectures and calibration techniques

This lecture presents the different system-level and block-level techniques that allow efficient sensor interfacing with A/D conversion. In particular, open- and closed-loop topologies are presented, as well as voltage- and charge-mode readout interfaces. Several examples demonstrate the application of the techniques proposed. Finally, a very efficient technique for self-calibration is presented: Sub-binary radix DACs. Marc Pastre is research and teaching associate at EPFL. He received his MSc degree in computer science and PhD degree in microelectronics from EPFL in 2000 and 2005 respectively. Besides his teaching activities in electronics and microelectronics, he is conducting research projects in the areas of high-performance sensor interfaces, low-power analog and mixed-signal circuits, digital enhancement of analog circuits, and CAD tools.
