Description
"The fixed field alternating gradient accelerator (FFA) represents the most general concept among the types of non-cycling accelerators including cyclotrons. A constant bending field presents an important advantage for the acceleration of high intensity beams. FFA’s utilize strong focusing to reduce the radial orbit variation as compared to cyclotrons with a weak focusing strength. The lecture covers scaling and non-scaling FFA’s and illustrates the conceptual advantages using several concrete design examples.
