HI-ECN3 Irradiation Opportunities Workshop
In the first part of the workshop, the possible scenarios for the construction of neutron irradiation facilities / test-areas at HI-ECN3 will be presented, both in terms of conceptual design, but also with a description of the radiation field figures-of-merit achievable and how these could complement and/or supplement the existing (and planned) radiation-test infrastructures.
In its second part, the workshop will describe more in detail the current and projected demand for neutron irradiations in the context of (a) detectors and sensors, (b) electronics and (c) materials testing, both for accelerator and experiment applications and other domains in which CERN is involved, e.g. through collaborations and knowledge transfer activities. The present and future demands will be compared to existing facilities and the possible scenarios at HI-ECN3. The existing and planned facility landscape for neutron irradiation, mainly linked to nuclear reactors, spallation and white neutron accelerator sources, will be also described providing an insight into the level of coverage that the presented HI-ECN3 possibilities could offer versus the actual needs.
The outcome of this workshop is intended as input for the CERN management to decide whether to integrate irradiation stations into the HI-ECN3 design in the future.
