Airport to Ueno station

  • From Haneda airport: Take Mono Rail to "Hamamatsu-cho" JR station (25 min). Then take JR-Yamanote line to Ueno (15 min). Ueno station is the closest station to University of Tokyo. Ticket costs about 650 Yen.
  • From Narita airport: Take "Skyliner" to Ueno which is express train of Keisei Railway. (40 min) Ticket costs about 2500 Yen.

Ueno station to U-Tokyo Hongo Campus

  • On-foot: Through the park, it takes about 20 min.
  • Bus: Take "Gaku01" line from Ueno to "TodaiKounai". (will prepare detailed map)

How to reach Venue?

  • The public bus is from Ueno / Okachimachi. (closest bust stop is 2 min.)
  • Subway line is Oedo-line(E08) or Marunouchi-line(M21) or Nanboku-line (N12).
  • 20 (15) min walking from JR Ueno (JR Okachimachi) station.

 

Tips

  • Suica: pre-paid card for public transpotation. You can buy at airport and any JR train station. You can use this card at many stores (including cafeteria in University, convienent store in town) to buy food / drink / snacks.  Recommend to get one!
    • Virtual Suica is also available although local organisers do not have an experience.
    • A special version of Suica, called Welcome Suica, is available to foreign tourists. The special cards are valid for only four weeks, come without a deposit fee, but do not allow for refunds. It is can be purchased at limited places (e.g. Airport), please check the web site for details.
  • Pasmo: Pasmo is practically nearly equivalent to Suica, but selled by other companies. 
  • Japan Railway pass is very good if you would have train trip before / after the workshop,

 

Visa to enter Japan

  • Please check your expiration date of your passport, it should be valid over your stay in Japan. (for special case, you may be asked for 6 month validity)

If you need to obtain your visa, please send an email to organizers to start this procedure. We will support to prepare a set of documents you need to submit.

It would take 5 days to 1 month to receive your visa after submitting your document. The visa is valid for three months, therefore we recommend to start this application from July 1st.
