Summary

Application developers in industrial or research application
out of the traditional grid world have often difficulties to get
used to adapting their applications to a common grid
middleware. Their infrastructure and possibilities also often
have very different characteristics than for example the
particle physics community.
KnowARC has selected three domains with fairly different
characteristics to complement the standard communities:
bioinformatics research, industry, and the medical domain for
a large, public organisation.
These domains will define their particular needs and
problems to be integrated into a future KnowARC
middleware. This will help to raise acceptance of grid
technologies in a variety of domains where interest in grids
is present but knowledge and resources often limited.
