Description
The Optimal Filter (OF2) algorithm is used for energy reconstruction by the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter (TileCal). This standard energy reconstruction method assumes uncorrelated noise. However, in the challenging high pile-up conditions of the LHC Run 3, the time correlations of the pile-up noise become important. The optimized Optimal Filtering algorithm (OF2 COV) is developed to enhance energy reconstruction in TileCal. The optimized method incorporates a noise covariance matrix into the calculation of the filter weights to effectively model and mitigate this correlated noise. Performance studies, conducted at both the cell and readout channel levels, demonstrate a significant improvement in the energy resolution. In regions of high occupancy and under moderate pile-up conditions, the root mean square of the energy error is reduced by up to 25% compared to the standard OF2 method. Further study of the new noise constants, essential for the reconstruction of physics objects, confirmed the overall reduction in noise across the calorimeter,
