Description
The Mu2e electromagnetic calorimeter consists of two annular aluminum disks, each instrumented with undoped CsI crystals and read out by large-area arrays of silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs). The detector has been fully assembled and installed in the Mu2e experimental hall. The complete system—including photosensors, front-end and digital electronics, cooling, slow control, and data acquisition—was successfully commissioned during the assembly phase in a clean-room environment. Preliminary time and energy calibrations were obtained using cosmic-ray events and laser pulses. In this paper, we report the performance achieved in these preliminary tests and present the strategy for the final commissioning of the two disks in the Mu2e experimental hall.
