How to reach Santander

Santander is a city in the north of Spain, main city of the Cantabria region. It is placed between the Vasc Country (limiting to the east) and Asturias (west). The north of Spain is known for mild temperatures all year long with weak but frequent rains. Summer temperatures can range between 20-30º C in summer. Despite all our efforts, sunny weather is not granted, but if present, will make your stay in Santander a time to remember.

By plane

Option 1: arrival to Santander by plane

The city is served by a small international airport. Direct international connections from: London, Paris, Milan, Rome, Dusseldorf, Edinburgh, Dublin, Brussels via Ryanair). Domestic flights to Santander can be expensive if booked short in advance. Please keep this point in mind if you need a connection.

There is a public bus (30 min frequency, 10 min trip,7 am- 11 pm) connecting the airport to the central bus station, located conveniently by the city center. The ride is 2.5 Euros, one way. For the way back, you pick it in the same place as it leaves you. Timetables are displayed at the stops.

Taxis to the city center are about 20 Euros, and maximum 30 Euros to the hotels. Taxi drivers will add extra 0.65 Euro by piece of luggage. Radio taxi telephone: +34 942 33 33 33

Option 2: arrivial to Bilbao by plane

Bilbao (100 km away from Santander) is the busiest and biggest hub in the north of Spain, well served from a number of countries (besides culinary delicacies there, the Guggenheim museum is a must-see in the city). Once in Bilbao, there are 3 possibilities:
1) rent a car at the airport
2) rent a taxi (~120 Euro to Santander, one way)
3) public bus to city center (leave at the last stop, the bus terminal, 30 min trip) and pick there a regular (inter-regional) bus ALSA (6 Euro approx) to Santander (1h ride). See: http://www.alsa.es

By train

Train station located in the city center. Visit RENFE webpage:

By bus

Most cities and villages in Spain are connected by a bus network. The main player is ALSA, which owns a fleet of comfortable buses. Internet connection for free in most of the cars. More information:
