Conclusions and Future Work
Success stories are always a good way to attract new applications. However in order not to discourage the new user when he/she starts using the Grid the ES Grid community needs to provide friendly tools and help the porting of applications. In ES many environments, softwares and tools are commonly used, and the role of the ES Grid community is then to provide a generic approach to use them on the Grid.

Detailed analysis
The applications already ported on EGEE are from different ES disciplines like atmospheric chemistry, climatology, hydrology, seismology domains. Grid provides more computing resources to the user and is also a way of sharing data, and algorithms. Even if EGEE is very suitable for intensive data processing and production, statistical approach, job on alert, simulation and modelling, the interface between the ES environment and Grid middleware is not simple for many applications and developments. There persist significant gaps due to complex computing protocols in ES. The ES cluster addressed this problem. Some gaps were already solved for specific applications and have to be made more generic and documented like a workflow manager. Other gaps need developments and are planned to be done like the use of Geographical Information services or the development of a graphic user interface.
Impact
The ES Grid community is expecting to bring new applications and projects through this dissemination. The increase of new applications will permit to create collaboration among people working in the same field and then to develop more common tools, and/or among people having applications based on the same requirements concerning input or output data, or numerical approach. The Grid provides also interaction among people working in different application domains but with the same requirements. Cross-fertilization among disciplines is a key point for Grid.
