Description
A use of weak radioactive ion beams has set new requirements for the ion beam handling. One of the recent developments, namely linear radiofrequency trap, aims for accumulation, cooling, bunching and emittance improvement of the low-energy (few tens of keV) radioactive ion beams. In this presentation background and operation principle for the linear RFQ trap will be given. A realisation and performance of such a device recently constructed in the Department of Physics, University of Jyväskylä will also be presented.
