Location
The Federico Santa María University is located in town of Valparaíso, Region of Valparaíso, 120 km to the northwest of Santiago, on the coast of Pacific Ocean. Valparaiso is recognized as a cultural heritage due to its historic charm. Near to it is located Viña de Mar, the 'Garden City', one of Chile's popular beach resorts, with excellent hotels and shopping areas.
Getting to Region of Valparaíso (Viña del Mar - Valparaíso)
The Region of Valparaiso is connected to the International Airport of Santiago by a highway Ruta 68. There are several alternative ways to get to your Hotel in Valparaiso or Viña del Mar:
Public Transportation: Bus (from the airport to the Santiago bus station ) + Bus (from the Santiago bus station to Viña del Mar - shuttle from 6.am to 10:30 pm) + local taxi.
The bus stop is located right outside the airport building (there are two companies: "Centropuerto" and "TurBus"), the ticket is paid at the bus, about $ 2.800 CLP. Get off the bus at the first stop (about 15-20 min drive), called "Pajaritos", a combined bus and subway station. You should enter the building and buy the ticket for your travel to Region of Valparaiso in one of the ticket offices located inside it (major companies are TurBus and Pullman Bus). The ticket costs approximately $6000 CLP (~8 USD). The bus stop in direction to Valparaíso is on the other side of the station where you got off the airport bus. When in the bus, please note that your ticket has a seat number (Spanish: "Asiento") assigned to it. The trip from Pajaritos to Viña takes about 90 minutes. The Bus Station in Viña del Mar is in downtown, approximately 1 km from Hotel San Martin. You can take a taxi from the Bus Terminal to your hotel, which will cost below $ 5.000 CLP.
Taxi/Shuttle: There is a 24 hour taxi service from the airport, called "Taxioficial". The transfer costs approx. 90.000 CLP (~ 150 USD) per taxi to Viña and can carry up to 3 persons with luggage.

By car: There are several major car rental companies which have their offices in Airport of Santiago (for example Europcar and Hertz). The cars are equipped with GPS navigators, so You will easily get to the final destination. During your trip over the highway Ruta 68, You will have to pay the tolls twice. The fee depends on the car as well as on your travel time (higher during rush hours); costs approximately 2.800 pesos payable only in cash.
