Cancer cells are so similar to healthy ones on the outside, that chemotherapy has severe side effects. On the inside, however, there is a vocabulary of small nucleic acids (the miRNAs), with significantly different distributions between the two... Smells like an opportunity for classification!
If only we had a small molecular computer to leverage this disparity, programmable to optimally recognize different classes of cells and, once inside a target cell, to execute an action. Like what a student team researched for this year's synthetic biology iGEM competition.Speaker: Konstantinos Samaras-Tsakiris (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (GR)) -

Many of us have gone through some house/flat refurbishment work, wondering which material to use, which law were to be followed, which incentives for energy saving upgrade works, which security system to install, etc.
Not many of us are from the area, fluent in French, knowledgeable of the law, the weather, the environment here around.
At CERN we have many people with strong specific skills. Why not share our experiences?Speaker: Alessandro Di Girolamo (CERN) -

SystemTap is a dynamic method of monitoring and tracing the operation of a running Linux kernel. In this talk I will present a few practical use cases where SystemTap allowed me to turn otherwise complex userland monitoring tasks in simple kernel probes.
