Child Care

The Neutrino Platform (TH), in cooperation with the CERN TH group, is committed to facilitate participation in its activities by parents with young children.

If you do need childcare, please check the following links and read carefully the info provided below.

Mme Sandrine Berthelier, the responsible of the Relais Assistantes Maternelles (RAM) in St Genis Pouilly consulted her colleagues from the RAMs of Pays de Gex and informed CERN personnel that the two sites can be used but précised the following:

  • The Relais Assistantes Maternelles (RAM) in St Genis Pouilly do know the sites in question
  • « Assistantes maternelles agréés», who put an announcement on the site are really certified.

Regarding the official child-minders in France (“assistantes maternelles agréées”), who are authorised by the “Président du conseil départemental” to take care of a child at their own home, Mme Berthelier advised that people always ask for the attestation issued by this French competent authority and check the following information:

  • If there is the logo of the “Conseil départemental”
  • The number of children the child-minder has the right to keep
  • Valid dates of the attestation

In France:

Le “Jardin de Capucine” in St Genis Pouilly – where CERN has 2 places for the specific needs of associate members of the personnel, who come to CERN for a short period of time. The Headmistress Mme Boucher is very helpful and cooperative and always trying to find a solution.

The daily fees are:

  • 80 Euros per day for children from 12 months to 4 years
  • 85 Euros per day for children from 4 to 12 months

In Switzerland:

There is the “Chaperon Rouge” agency, which proposes child care at home from persons over the age of 16, trained by the Red Cross in Geneva for long-term or temporary missions (from 4 days till less than 6 months).

The fees depend on the income and may vary from 65 CHF to 210 CHF for one child, per day.

Another option is the agency “Priorité Enfants”, which offers child care services for long and short (attention – more than one month) periods of time. The fee for irregular baby-sitting is around 21 CHF per hour + the registration fees 90 CHF for temporary missions + 100 CHF per week of work.

Finally, there is also another option, proposed by the Geneva University, called “Uni-emploi” that helps connect students from the University of Geneva with people, who need different services online.  In order to access them, an annual fee of CHF 30 is required.  The University also suggests the amount to pay for various child care services, including baby-sitting:
