Directions & Practical Information

All talks will take place in the Shapiro Student Center, located centrally on the campus. The view of the Shapiro center from physics:

 

The physics department  is easily recognizable because of the observatory. Physics is centrally located and close to the main entrance:

Brandeis has a commuter train stop to/from Boston and Cambridge. Timetable can be found here:

Taxis are astonishingly expensive in the Boston area. We recommend ride sharing services or rental car.

Quick overview:

Air Travel:

  • Closest Airport to Brandeis is Boston Logan, just 17 miles way. 

Airport transfer:

  • The 'Silver Line' connects the airport to the rest of the Boston public transportation system. Rides are free. Please note, it's a bus and not a train despite the name. 
     
  • Cabs in Boston are pricey. A ride from from Logan to Brandeis will be about $40 using Uber/Lyft  and about $60. All modes of transportation besides 'Silver Line' are charging an surcharge from the airport.
  • Public transport: Take the Silver and then Red Line to Porter Square, then change to Fitchburg commuter rail, exit Brandeis/Roberts station.
     

Getting around:

  • Aa commuter train service available from Boston's North Station and Cambridge's Porter Station  directly to the 'Brandeis/Roberts' Station. Train take only about 20min but run only about once per hour, particularly outside rush hour.
     
  • During summer exists a $10 for all zones/all rides fare special on the weekends on the commuter rail

Parking:

  • There is a plot of parking at Brandeis at Brandeis. Visitor passes may be obtained at the University Police Dispatch Center in Public Safety in the Stoneman Building. Plenty of parking available on the Theater Lot. See map for details. 

Tickets

  • For people that plan to stay a few days longer in Boston,  a few days longer in Boston, discounted tickets to local attractions can be obtained at the Brandeis ticket office located in the meeting venue.

 

Dining & Drinks:

  • Breakfast, coffee breaks and boxed lunch will be served plus dinner on Friday. Thursday might be a BBQ.
     
  • During summer hours hours may vary options at Brandeis are limited. There are two main Food Courts, Lower Usdan and Sherman Dining HallThe Stein, located above the Sherman Dining Hall and close to meeting venue, is a cozy pub with typical pub food. There is also a convenience store, an Einstein Bros (in the conference venue), Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks across the campus. Best sandwiches can be found at Domenicks in the International Business School
     
  • Plenty of bars and restaurants on Moody Street, less than ten minutes from the campus.
     
  • Best Mexican in the area: Taqueria Mexico
