Description

The objective of this meeting is to get status and progress updates from the different tasks, and to share highlights.

In addition, Carlo Rossi will tell us about the cost model which is being set up for CompactLight.

The time set aside for each update is approximate. Please let me know if you would like to make a longer presentation.

The objective of this meeting is to get status, progress updates occurring since the annual meeting in December from the different tasks and to share highlights.

Each tasks gave presentations progress reviews which are available on the indico page. The only exception was Task 2, Industrialization which is scheduled to ramp up activities by mid-year.

Significant progress has been made. Highlights for each task include:

Task 1 Layout and optimization of the linac rf system

  • It is likely that the SARC_LAB rf system will be made identical to that of CompactLight.
  • Dual mode, low rep rate/high energy and high rep rate/low energy, linac operation is being studied. Performance limits have been identified and various configurations are under investigation.
  • Quadrupole components from coupler are being calculated.

Task 2 Industrialization

  • Activity not yet started

Task 3 Modulator technology

  • Dual mode operation is also being addressed. Various configurations are being investigated including high-efficiency klystron options

Task 4 Power sources for higher-harmonic systems

  • The baseline 36 GHz 2 MW gyroklystron has been modified to give 2.75 MW
  • Study of a fourth harmonic system, 48 GHz, is under study
  • High repetition rate operation will be studied

Task 5 Integration

  • A baseline module schematic layout with preliminary dimensions is now available.
  • Parameter tables are being prepared.

A special presentation was also made on the costing methodology for CLIC and a proposal for CompactLight. The costing is based on a PBS (Project Breakdown Structure). WP4 will proceed with making such PBS and a crucial next step is to identify responsibility for systems and/or components. This PBS can provide the basis for the Integration parameter table.

The first WP4 deliverable will be due at the end of June. The objective is to have an excellent(!) draft by the end of May. As soon as a document template is available, Walter will make a table of contents with assigned writing tasks.

Notes taken by Markus during the meeting are available on the XLS collaborative workspace.

The next WP4 regular meeting will be held on Thursday 4 April https://indico.cern.ch/event/802673/.
