Peter – the master of experimental high energy physics – has pursued his research for more than half a century. This has been a period of a very vivid development of accelerators, detectors and physics ideas. Peter served as the scientific leader of three CERN experiments: NA5, NA35 and NA49. He has greatly contributed to progress in several fields: photo- and multi-particle production, charmonium and jet studies, cosmic-ray, neutrino and, in particular, heavy-ion physics.
