MORNING SESSION 8, PLENARY LECTURES: INTRODUCTION TO THE QUANTIC WORLD
- Luis Enrique IBANEZ SANTIAGO (Director of the Institute of Theoretical Physics, IFT, CSIC and Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (SP) )
Description
This session opens a new topic covered in this school, showing how QUANTUM PHYSICS impacts in our world and thus with increased developments on new technologies and their applications.
"Nature isn’t classical, dammit, and if you want a simulation of nature, you’d better make it quantum mechanical” already claimed in 1981, 40 years ago, by Richard Feynman, Physics Nobel Prize.
To be noted: hands-on Lab sessions are organised on several aspects of this field from software applications to quantum computing and quantum communication and on the hardware side as introduced the next day.
Prof. German Sierra is a Prof. of Theroetical Physics at the Institute of Theoretical Physics at the Autonoma of Madrid and CSIC.
His current research interests are on:
- Quantum entanglement in many body systems
- Topological quantum matter
- Conformal Field Theory applied to Condensed Matter Physics
- Tensor networks: MPS, PEPS, ...
- Exactly solvable models
and applications to...
At the end of German's lecture we took a SCHOOL PHOTO.
