Description

Magnetic filter is important for negative ion sources, it cools down the electron temperature near the extraction area. The magnetic filter can be produced by permanent magnets or by large current flow through the plasma grid. The plasma transport process from the driver to the extraction area is affected by the magnetic filter, we used a movable Langmuir probe to measure the plasma spatial distribution from the driver to the plasma grid. The magnetic filter is not only present in the expansion region, it also penetrates into the driver. Plasma parameters in the driver are measured to study the influence of magnetic field penetration on plasma production.
