Description
We introduce a systematic characterization of an ensemble of initial density profiles in terms of an average state and an orthonormal basis of statistically uncorrelated modes that represent the event-by-event fluctuations of the initial state. Applying this decomposition to different initial-state models, we quantify the resulting types and probabilities of event-by-event fluctuations and investigate how the different modes impact several characteristics of the initial state. We perform simulations of the dynamical evolution of the fireball with KøMPøST and MUSIC to investigate the influence of the various modes on final-state bulk observables and their correlations.
