University of Manchester, Covid-19 procedures

Social distancing:  the legal requirement for social distancing is no longer in place. However, consideration should be given to continue with social distancing measures in areas of the campus where it is possible to do so without restricting activity.

Face coverings on campus and other precautionary measures:   The University of Manchester is closely monitoring the situation over the Omicron variant of COVID and has introduced new procedures that will apply to your in-person participation in the 23rd MCnet Meeting next week.

The risk that the new Omicron variant poses is not yet clear however, as a precautionary measure and in line with the UK government’s guidance on public transport and retail, face coverings were made mandatory in all indoor spaces in at The University of Manchester, with the exception of solo use spaces, from Monday 29th November.

This includes when sitting in offices or study spaces, unless you are socially distanced to 2 metres.  This new guidance applies irrespective of the signage around campus.

Face coverings will be available from our University buildings.

These measures are precautionary as we wait to learn more about the variant, and will remain in place until further notice.  Our university will issue further guidance in due course.

The University of Manchester understands that not everyone can wear a face covering for medical reasons, but if you can you must do so to help protect others. You should also consider wearing a visor if a face covering is not possible for you.  You are also strongly encouraged to take all other measures available, including regular hand washing and sanitising, and getting vaccinated against COVID and flu.

Further information on our COVID response can be found on our University’s website at  https://www.manchester.ac.uk/coronavirus/
