Venice can be easily reached by train. There are several trains per hour leaving from Padua and reaching Venice railway station (Venezia Santa Lucia) in about 25-50 minutes depending on the train type (see Trenitalia website to check the timetable and buy tickets). Beware that in the evening last departures from Venice are around 22:30 and 00:30 and that, especially during the last days of the Carneval, these trains could be crowded.

The workshop is held during Carneval time: Venice carneval is particularly famous and hosts events through the city, in the central San Marco square (about 40-50 minutes walking distance from the railway station) as well as in Venice streets and squares.

Other nice cities close to Padua are Verona, with its famous Arena, easily reachable with 1-hour train trip

and Mantua (~1.5 hours by car or train), a small city with important architectural treasures and artifacts of Italian Renaissance.
