Thailand, a Southeast Asian nation, is renowned for its tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces, ancient ruins, and ornate temples adorned with Buddha figures. Bangkok, the capital, ranks among the world's premier tourist destinations. Beyond the city itself, a myriad of intriguing provinces in the vicinity are well worth exploring.

The FPCP2024 organizers have curated a selection of half-day excursions designed to provide participants with enjoyable and relaxing experiences before the conference resumes. Bangkok and its neighboring cities offer a diverse array of tourist attractions, providing ample opportunities to sightsee and immerse oneself in Thai culture.

Trip 1: The Ancient City in Samut Prakan

The Ancient City ("Mueang Boran") is a museum park occupying in 320 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens on the outskirts of Bangkok. Grounds mimic the precise shape of Thailand, featuring replicas of the country's most historically significant structures, albeit usually down-scaled in size. Each of the over 116 monuments is in their proper geographic position, and include chedis, palaces, bell towers, pavilions, temples, halls, floating markets, Buddha images and shrines

Trip 2: Cultural Walking Tour in Rattanakosin Island

Discover the heart of Thailand's rich heritage at Rattanakosin Island, often referred to as the Old Town, nestled in Bangkok's Phra Nakhon District. This historic area is a treasure trove of Thailand's most iconic landmarks, boasting the magnificent Grand Palace, the sacred Wat Phra Kaew with its revered Emerald Buddha, and the awe-inspiring Wat Pho, home to the majestic Reclining Buddha.

As you wander through Rattanakosin, you'll be transported through time, experiencing the vibrant tapestry of Thai history. Every corner of this enchanting area reveals the deep-rooted traditions of Thailand, from stunning Buddhist temples and regal palaces to fascinating museums, lush parks, and poignant monuments. Rattanakosin Island is not just a destination; it's a journey into the soul of Thai culture.

Trip 3A: Bicycle Tour (Siam Boran Culture Tour)

We'll cycle through Bangkok's vibrant backstreets for a firsthand experience of local life and explore 'Old Bangkok' with its quaint communities and delicious street food. At a local Chinese shrine, we'll make offerings for health and protection before delving into the lively streets of Chinatown, bustling with market stalls and food vendors.

By the river, we'll wander through the fragrant flower market, enlivened by Thailand's dazzling floral array. Crossing the River of Kings, we'll visit Thailand's old capital, unwind in serene temple grounds, feed turtles, and immerse ourselves in Thai culture with a Buddha offering.

Our journey concludes with a scenic return along the riverside cycle path, including a ferry ride offering captivating city views and a refreshing breeze.

Trip 3B: Bicycle Tour (Bang Kachao, Bangkok's green lung)

Meeting by the Chao Phraya River, we'll start by enjoying the cool breeze and tranquil river atmosphere. A high-speed long tail boat ride will take us from the cityscape to the lush greenery of the Phra Pradaeng peninsula, Bangkok's 'Lungs'. Here, we'll rent bicycles to explore the serene country roads and nature-surrounded pathways, stopping to taste traditional snacks at a local shop.

After visiting a large, scenic green park and feeding the fish, we'll delve into the everyday life of a quiet local community. Our return journey includes cycling on raised paths above mangroves for an adrenaline-filled experience. We'll then head back to the bustling city in our long tail boat, leaving behind the peninsula's lush greenery.
