Description

The sensitivity of the NA62 experiment at CERN to charged kaon decays violating lepton number conservation, neutral pion decays forbidden in the Standard Model and heavy sterile neutrinos is discussed. These tests would probe new physics scenarios involving heavy Majorana neutrinos or R-parity violating SUSY. An upper limit on the lepton number violating K+- to pi-+ mu+- mu+- decay rate from the NA48/2 experiment is presented, which probes the resonant enhancement of the rate in the presence of heavy Majorana neutrinos in the ~100 MeV range.
