Description

I will briefly review string effective actions of orientifolds with D-branes, and their relevance to string models in cosmology and phenomenology. I discuss recent work on the evaluation of string one-loop contributions to the moduli space metric of closed string moduli in toroidal minimally supersymmetric (Calabi-Yau) orientifolds with D-branes. The focus is on poorly understood (twisted) contributions that a priori receive contributions from all massive string states.
