Description
The study of supersymmetric quantum field theories on compact manifolds has led to a plethora of new exact results in recent years. One of the simplest observable in this context is the supersymmetric partition function on a manifold M, Z_M, which can often be computed exactly.
In the case of theories with four supercharges in flat space, I will explain some general properties of Z_M which can be understood on general ground. This understanding explains many properties of previously obtained localization results and makes sharp predictions for future computations.
