        Network Performance Monitoring 10m
EGEE JRA4 is developing network services to allow Grid and Network Operations Centres (GOCs/NOCs) and the gLite middleware to access network monitoring data. EGEE JRA4 is working with the GGF Network Measurements Working Group (NM-WG) to define a web services interface to network monitoring data based on the NM-WG request and response schema. This will allow uniform access to any monitoring framework making it more straightforward to access data from a number of heterogeneous sources. Exposing the data from monitoring frameworks is only part of the solution to operation centre and middleware requirements. In addition these users need to be able to locate data that may exist at only one of a number of sites (discovery) and they need a way in which to request data that must be pieced together from data that exist over a number of sites (aggregation). This has lead EGEE JRA4 to specify two distinct network monitoring architectures: the NPM Mediator (aimed at operations centres), and the NPM Publisher (aimed at the middleware). EGEE JRA4 is currently in the process of validating these architectures against the operation centre and middleware requirements. The NPM demo is a prototype implementation of the NPM Mediator. The prototype demonstrates access to two monitoring frameworks (GEANT's Perfmonit and EDG/WP7) collecting data from backbone and end-sites across EGEE JRA4 and the EGEE JRA1 testbed (France, Italy, UK, Switzerland and Sweden). The monitoring frameworks are securely exposed using web services that implement a single NM-WG compliant interface. The demo also shows an implementation of aggregation across a number of different sites.

        Gridbased Visualisation 10m
Martin Polak, mpolak@gup.jku.at; Dieter Kranzlmueller, Thomas Köckerbauer, Jens Volkert GUP, Joh. Kepler University Linz, EGEE Partner #2 Altenbergerstr. 69, A-4040 Linz, Austria/Europe This demo describes our recent efforts in using state of the art video coding techniques for providing interactive visualisation on the grid. Our grid-based service GVid offers the ability to create high quality (and thus) computationally expensive images of the user's visualization request. For this, GVid utilizes a grid-empowered centralized or decentralized streamed content creation service by providing hard or software based rendering. In its current form GVid offers special integration for the well known vtk[1], but can be also integrated with applications utilising GLUT[2] . It can even dock to any X11 application running on a remote host. In contrast to existing streaming video solutions, such as Darwin- StreamingServer or WindowsStreamingServer, or remote desktop solutions, like VNC or rdp, G-Vid is very flexible regarding its inputs and the ability to capture AND provide feedback channels to the underlying content creating applications. This allows to seamlessly integrate interactivity through the grid for users acting on the streamed video output. GVid uses glogin for transportation, a tool developed at GUP, offering interactive GSS-secured connections between grid and user interface nodes. The demo at the EGEE-03 conference shows three different vtk-demo applications running (Medical Visualization, Interactive Streamlines and Pseudo Volume Rendering) and hardware offscreen rendering on an EGEE-fabric node at the University of Linz, being interacted with a thin client notebook from the demo session in Athens, and displaying the video streamed output of those applications locally. GRID-PORTAL 10m
This demonstartion based on the WEB based P-GRADE Grid Portal and represents the interconnection of the SEE sites without the core services of the LCG-2. This is the official portal of the project. The P-GRADE Grid portal supports complete monitoring and visualization system for the resources of the SEE sites and the created workflows. The portal has a so called Multi-Grid feature and by the help of this function each job of the workflow can be executed in different Grids. So, the SEE sites interconnection with different Grids is supported during the execution of the workflow. This demonstartion gives an overview about these main functions and demonstrate the operation with a real chemical application. As a joint effort of MTA SZTAKI and Department of Physical Chemistry, Eötvös University (ELTE), P-GRADE Grid Portal and MERCURY monitoring system have been successfully applied to make grid-enabled an existing simulator for chemical reactions-diffusion-advection systems in the frame of the chemistry Grid project. The developed application is accessed via P-GRADE portal, where each component (parallel or sequential job) is able to collaborate in the Grid based on P-GRADE workflow concept to provide efficient air pollution forecasting e.g. in case of the distribution of radioactive nuclidos.

        gPTM3D 10m
Many clinical or medical imaging applications combine requirements for high-end computing and data storage, and the need for human supervision. More generally, the massive use of computing power today is interactive desktop computing. Can the Grid metaphor apply not only to factories - large virtual organizations -, but also to light bulbs - the individual interactive? Departing from the computing centre model means to put emphasis not on work throughput, but on response time at all levels of the Grid protocols, while retaining the key advances of Grid technology allowing to build virtual organisations. The demo will present the first achievement of gPTM3D. gPTM3D is an EGEE-enabled version of the PTM3D medical images analysis software developed at LIMSI for visualizing, navigating through, and analyzing complex medical image data sets, and is used in clinical practice. Currently, the volume reconstruction module has been coupled with EGEE with the following results: - the overall response time is compatible with user requirements (less than 2 minutes) - the local interaction scheme (stop, restart, modify) remains unmodified. This application exemplifies an agent-based architecture based on the principle of Application Level Scheduling, which is of potential interest for other applications.

        SEEGRID 10m
This demonstration involves the web-based P-GRADE Grid Portal and represents the interconnection of the SEE-GRID sites (without the LCG-2 core services). The portal supports complete monitoring and visualization system for the SEE sites and the relevant workflows. The portal has a Multi-Grid feature whereby each job of the workflow can be executed in different Grids. Thus, the SEE-GRID sites can be interconnected with different Grids is during the execution of the workflow. A real-time application will be used to demonstrate the portal capabilities. Additionally, a simple GridIce monitoring visualization will be demonstrated where all the SEE-GRID sites (at least one in most of the SEE-GRID partner countries) are proactively monitored. GridIce tool is the EU DataTag project development which has been inherited by the LCG/EGEE middleware as the fabric monitoring tool of choice. In the current demo, the GridIce server is running at the LCG SEE- GRID site in FYROM.

This questionnaire is intended for all CB members in order to help improve the project’s performance in the areas of project management and administration, as well as in technical aspects, primarily for the EGEE project itself, but also in order to better prepare for the second phase of EGEE (EGEE-II) that will be submitted in September 2005. Your feedback and suggestions are essential, in order to have a complete assessment of the project.
