Description

The aim of PAPS 2017 is to provide master-level students with an overview of exciting recent developments in modern physics that would normally not be part of the regular curriculum at their home universities. Lectures are given by internationally recognised experts in a variety of topics, and the school includes interactive problem solving sessions and panel discussions on opportunities and life in academia.

PAPS 2017 is hosted by Birzeit University.

Problem sets

Certificates of attendance are given to students handing in their solutions to problem sets. Problem sets are due on Thursday July 13 at the 10:15 am break. The following problems should be handed in:

1) Condensed matter physics: problem set 1.

2) Cosmology: problems 1 and 3 from problem set 1.

3) Science at SESAME: Only one problem.

4) Time-reversal invariance: all problems.

Problem sets and lecture notes are available from the "materials" section at the bottom right of this page.

Lecturers

Ann Nelson (University of Washington) -- Cosmology

Giorgio Paolucci (SESAME) -- Science at SESAME

David Tong (University of Cambridge) -- Condensed matter physics

Special Lecturers

Hans Stroeher (University of Jülich) -- Time-reversal symmetry and antimatter.

Imad Barghouti (Al Quds University) -- Science in Palestine

Funding

PAPS 2017 is funded by generous contributions from The International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Birzeit University, and the 201 donors to our public fundraising campaign at https://www.fiatphysica.com/campaigns/support-science-in-palestine.

Organisation

PAPS 2017 is the second advanced physics school in Palestine organised by Scientists for Palestine -- an international organisation created by and for scientists to promote science and support the integration of the occupied Palestinian territories in the international scientific community. More about Scientists for Palestine, including information on how to get involved, is available at scientist4palestine.com.
