Description
The Hellenic Lyceum Cosmic Observatories Network (HELYCON) aims for the development of a network of Extensive Air Shower Detector Stations, distributed in Western Greece. In 2014 three pilot HELYCON stations were installed and still in operation at the Hellenic Open University (HOU) campus in Patra. Each station comprises 3 scintillator (1 sq. meter each) detectors and one or more CODALEMA-type RF antennas. Furthermore, small-scale and low cost autonomous HELYCON stations, suitable for easy installation and operation at high school laboratories, have also been constructed and tested at the HOU lab. In this work, we report on the operation and performance of the HELYCON stations and we present also the first educational activities that had been carried out by high school students and teachers.
