How to get to CERN

First entry to CERN
If you do not have a regular CERN access card
- You should print the e-card for the school before leaving home. It carries an identifier similar to a boarding pass.
- Present the card to the guards at Entrance B, open 24/24 and 7/7. Follow the maps either to the CERN Hostel or to the School venue.
The hostel reception (building 39) is open every day until 1 a.m.
Restaurant 1 closes at 22:00 and serves hot meals until 20:00 on Sunday.
Registration, Software Installation
A team will be welcoming you at the Council Chamber on Sunday October 28th between 15:00 to 18:00 to help installing the required software.
Note: this is the only time where we can provide practical help with software installation for the hands-on sessions.
Car access
We advise you not to hire a car if you are staying in Geneva: public transport is very reliable and always on time, parking is often limited and traffic is difficult at peak hours. If you want to enter the CERN site with a car, please note the following:
‘Visitors and participants in visits and conferences should normally park their private vehicles in the Globe car park, leaving the P+R area free, if their visit takes place on the Meyrin site and is within walking distance. They are permitted to enter and leave the car park once by default. For an event lasting two days or more, they must report to Reception in Building 33 with their visitor card or special badge to be granted an additional entry’.
Power plugs
At CERN power plugs provide 220 V AC at 50 Hz and follow the Swiss standard. Unless you have plugs Swiss or Europlug you will need an adapter.
WiFi registration
The instructions to register any device you might be using during the meeting can be found here: http://landb.web.cern.ch/landb/selfregistration/visitor. Requests can be made in advance or once at CERN. You can indicate Kate Ross as contact, and she will grant you access.
CERN Map of buildings
The app ‘MapCERN’ for smartphones and tablets will help you find any building while on site (download). From a computer, use https://maps.cern.ch/

There are two restaurants/cafeterias in the Meyrin site, in buildings 501 (http://cern.ch/resto1) and 504 (http://cern.ch/restaurant2). Use these links to find out their opening hours and daily menus.
