How to Reach Aveiro

By Airplane

The Oporto Airport is the best choice to arrive by plane. From there, it is possible to take a Taxi (about €20) or the E line of Metro do Porto (Estádio do Dragão - Aeroporto; direction Estádio do Dragão), buying the Z4 Ticket (€1,85+ €0.6 to the rechargeable card), to the Campanhã train station. There are train connections from Porto to Aveiro every hour: SubUrbano (1h journey - €3,40) or IC / Alfa (30min to 40min journey - from €11,70 to €19,70):

For late flights, please pay attention that the last metro from Oporto airport to the main train station departs around 00:30 and the trains to Aveiro generally stops around 01:00.

Arriving at Lisbon Airport is the other choice. From there, it is possible to take a Taxi (about €10) or the Red line of Metro de Lisboa, buying the "Viva Viagem" card (€0,50) along with the 1 hour Travel Ticket (€1,40), to the Oriente train station. There are train connections from Lisboa to Aveiro every hour: IC / Alfa (2h to 2h30m journey - from €20,20 to €37,90). Lower prices can be obtained if booked in advance.

By Train

Aveiro's railway station is located close to the city's centre, with urban/regional trains and fast services to all main cities in Portugal. For more information on tickets and schedules just go to Comboios de Portugal .

By Car

It takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour to travel from Porto to Aveiro, using either the A1 or the A29 highways. Travelling from Lisbon will take about 2 hours, using either the A1 highway or, best choice, the A8 and A17 highways.

Pay attention to Electronic Tolls: Some highways in Portugal have electronic tolls exclusively. This means that there are no cabins and the electronic identification of the vehicle is made at the moment of crossing the point of collection, in one or several sites along the highway. All lanes with electronic tolls are properly identified using the reference "Electronic toll only". Regarding this system please contact your can rental company. They will likely offer you an electronic identifier (with a fee generally less 3€/day) and charge directly on your credit card. Also, with this identifier you can cross the other regular tolls in the special "Via Verde" lane without having to stop on the cabins.

If you do not acquire this service you can still using the eletronic tolls (but not Via Verde lanes). You can in the high-way but you have to pay the tool in the next 5 business days on a post office (There is a post office in the book store in the University, close to the Reitoria building. Contact the local organization if needed).

There is a free parking lot next to University's water tower building (GPS coordinates: N 40 37.733, W 8 39.300) and it's possible to find other parking locations around the Campus, however it's more advisable to leave the car at the Hotel and walk to the University, since the majority of the hotels are within a comfortable walking distance. See the Walking Map of Aveiro to have an idea of the distances inside the City.
