The purpose of this work is to determine if it is possible to emulate neutron events in detectors with a femtosecond infrared laser. Neutron detection in solid state ionization detectors as pin diodes is possible by the internal production of ion recoils. Those ions generate an internal short ionization track. Femtosecond infrared lasers interacting by two photon absorption (TPA) also produce short and localized photoionization volumes in pin diodes. We need to take pin diode signals under irradiation of a neutron beam with well defined energy to know if it is possible to get the same detection signals with a laser in TPA regime. The laser measurements will be done in other CERN facility.
This is a proposal to make a test in the EAR1 NEL.
