There are many hotels and AirBnBs within walking distance from Imperial, however, South Kensington, where Blackett Lab is located, is a rather pricey part of town. The area around Earl's Court (one tube stop away) is significantly cheaper and still allows for easy access to Blackett Lab in about 15min via tube and short walk, or by foot in ~25min. Shepherd's Bush is another more affordable area which is located within decent reach (~30min by bus, depending on traffic, or 50min walk).
