Chulalongkorn University

Chulalongkorn University (commonly abbreviated as “Chula”, pronounced choo-lah, with the stress on the second syllable) is the oldest and one of the most prestigious universities in Thailand. Founded in 1917 by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) and named in honor of his father, King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), the university has long been recognized as a national leader in higher education, research, and innovation.

The university’s emblem is the Phra Kiao, a royal coronet traditionally associated with King Chulalongkorn. The official color of the university is pink, which represents warmth, kindness, and harmony, and is often used in academic and ceremonial settings.

The main campus is located in the modernized Pathumwan district at the very heart of Bangkok, within walking distance of major shopping centers, cultural landmarks, and public transportation, including the BTS Skytrain and MRT subway. The campus blends traditional Thai architecture with contemporary academic and research facilities, offering a vibrant and welcoming setting for international conferences.

Chulalongkorn University Auditorium

The Chulalongkorn University Auditorium is one of the university’s most iconic landmarks. Built in 1938 in a distinctive blend of Thai and Western architectural styles, it has been recognized as a registered national heritage building. The auditorium has long served as the ceremonial heart of the university, hosting royal functions, academic convocations, cultural performances, and international events.

The building features a grand interior with a seating capacity of around 1,300, making it suitable for large gatherings such as plenary sessions. Its architectural design combines traditional Thai motifs with modern functionality, reflecting Chulalongkorn University’s role as a bridge between heritage and innovation. Located at the center of the main campus, the auditorium offers both historical significance and practical facilities, providing a distinguished setting for the opening and plenary sessions of CHEP 2026.
