Description
Multipurpose detector (MPD) be used for studying hadrons, electrons, and photons generated in heavy ion collisions at energies provided by the NICA collider of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna). Magnet have cylindrical form each dimension is 6,5 m of circumscribed diameter and 9 m length. A constituent part of the MPD is a superconducting solenoid magnet with a superconducting NbTi coil in pure aluminum matrix. Around solenoid installed steel yoke by 28 barrels. Operation field from 0.2 T to 0.57 T in an aperture to ensure the transverse momentum resolution within the operation range at NICA complex.
Operation temperature of the magnet is 4.5K. A variety of engineering systems have been developed for the safe operation of the magnet, including an electric power supply system, cryogenic cooling, superconducting cable protection system and output of stored energy, a suspension system and magnetic force control. Currently, the magnet is undergoing magnetic field map measurements and selection of optimal currents.
The report will present the design and features of magnets of such sizes, start up of it step by step, the operating parameters of engineering and protection systems, a field mapping device in the magnet's aperture, the results of test operation.
