Description
The challenge of approaching the particle physics theme in educational non-formal actions presents complex difficulties that refer to physics knowledge and the limited scientific formation of society. Therefore, within the National Institute of Science and Technology-CERN-Brazil, an itinerant exhibition is being organized that has as objectives to present the LHC experiments and discuss the Brazilian collaboration in this laboratory. The central idea of this proposal is to promote the cultural identity of the public, with special interest in school visits, whose aims is to build lasting bonds with physics knowledge. For this to occur, this exhibition is constituted of 5 modules that approach the themes about the knowledge of atomic and particle physics (module 1), the history of particle physics (module 2), the Alice, Atlas, CMS and LHCb experiments (module 3), CERN and society (module 4) and Hands On experiments (module 5). Elements such as the gender question, Latin American representativity and the cultural impact of CERN are some of the themes that permeate this proposal. The exhibition intends to travel to regions outside the big metropolis. We hope that these actions can promote renewed interest for particle physics and have relevant role in the scientific literacy of society
