TRAVEL AROUND AMSTERDAM

Public Transport

The public transport in Amsterdam is extensive and well-organised.  Travel round the city is possible by tram, metro and bus and the GVB offer various tariffs depending on the length of your stay.  Day tickets can be bought on the trams and buses and longer stay tickets can be bought at the station.  For further information on which ticket to buy, please visit the website.

Bike Rental:

The most convenient and economical way of getting around in Amsterdam is by bike.  The bike paths are extremely well kept and in Amsterdam, the cyclist is King!

The nearest bike rental stop to Amsterdam Central Station is Mac Bikes.  On exiting the station, simply turn left and follow the building along until you arrive at the shop.  For more information, please visit the website.

Taxi:

There are various taxi ranks dotted around Amsterdam and the closest one to the Tuschinski Theatre is located outside the Ice Bar, Amstel 196

Taxi to the Airport:

If you are already aware that you need to be at the airport at a certain time and plan on travelling by taxi, we recommend you book this in advance.

Our top recommendation is Taxi Electric, Amsterdam.  Their electric cars are very eco-friendly and they offer a great online booking service and the possibility of selecting a reduced tariff in exchange for a flexible pick-up time (which basically means booking the taxi for 15 minutes before you actually need it to arrive).  The current price from Amsterdam centre to Schipol Airport is €33,75.

CONFERENCE DINNER – HET SCHEEPVAART MUSEUM

The conference dinner will take place at Het Scheepvaart Museum, Amsterdam.  This newly renovated nautical museum is located within 10 minutes walking distance from Amsterdam Central Station and within 30 minutes walking distance from the Tuschinski Theatre.

From the Tuschinski Theatre by Tram:

Option 1:  If you don’t mind walking part of the way, the quickest route is to take tram 9 or 14 from Rembrandtplein to Mr. Visserplein, then walk north along Nieuwe Herengracht until you reach the main road.  At this point, you will immediately see Het Scheepvaart Museum on the other side of the road, facing out onto the harbour.  It is a large white building with a replica ship docked outside it.

Option 2:  The other route is to take tram, 4, 16, 24 from Muntplein back to Amsterdam Central Station, then walk east towards Het Scheepvaartmuseum along the harbour.
