Paul Phelps Continuing Education Grant

Description To promote continuing education and encourage membership in NPSS.
Grant Maximum of $500 for each recipient, mostly for tuition in NPSS sponsored Short Courses/Tutorials, but in selected cases, possibly for partial hotel room costs to attend a Short Course/Tutorial. A maximum of six grants will be given for this conference.  
Funding Funded by the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society.
Eligibility Outstanding NPSS Student Members, Postdoctoral Fellows who are Members of NPSS, and unemployed Members of NPSS who need assistance in changing career direction.
Basis for Judging Exceptional promise as a student, postdoc or research associate in any of the fields of NPSS, or exceptional work in those fields by currently unemployed NPSS members with an expectation that attendance to one or more of the Short Courses will result in an improved possibility of obtaining a job in an NPSS field.
Note Self-nomination will not be accepted.

NPSS Child Care Assistance Grant

Description

The Nuclear & Plasma Sciences Society is offering child care reimbursement of up to $400 per family as a Pilot Program to assist conference attendees who incur additional childcare expenses by attending an NPSS conference. Limited funds are available and preference will be given to applicants in the early stages of their careers who are IEEE NPSS members. Up to five candidates will be selected per conference. Reimbursement

Allowable expenses include:

  • Babysitting or child-care expenses at the conference location while parent(s) attend sessions
  • Additional babysitting or child-care expenses incurred in leaving a child at home while parent(s) attend the conference
  • Transportation expenses for a childcare provider to care for child(ren) during the conference (e.g., an adult or relative not sharing your residence)

Expenses must be documented on the standard IEEE Expense Report. Documented expenses, together with receipts, must be received by the conference finance chair/treasurer within two weeks of the completion of the conference. If documentation is not received within 2 weeks following the end of the conference no reimbursement will be made. All reimbursements will be made after the conference.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants:

  • Families where both parents are registered attendees at the conference
  • Parent (registered attendee) who brings child(ren) to the conference
  • Parent (registered attendee) who incurs additional expenses at home (above their normal child-care expenses) while attending the conference
Notification Notification of reimbursement selection will be made by 31 March 2016, in sufficient time to make plans before the Early Registration deadline.
