        Storage Performance Issues, Monitoring etc.
This session will discuss how to improve the performance of tape-backed MSS systems (or what the experiments could/should do to give hints to the system).

(experiences, suggestions for dCache and Castor, etc.).

See also: { One and the same monitoring tool is needed for tapes for all T1’s. Action on: Jamie Shiers } We have another use case, but this is primarily for CERN. We still have users reading from tape and we didn't know. Actually there are hundreds of tapemounts per day for reading by users and we didn't know. If we would have had any monitoring we would have been able to spot this much earlier. Now we learned for the first time in a presentation by Tim Bell.

      Main auditorium

      CERN

Important to stress not only the 'Computing Model' styles of steady-state operation, but also the more chaotic data access patterns that are likely to typify early data taking (e.g. more requests from more sites to access to raw/ESD files - impact on resources...)

Follow-up on Action Items from April CCRC'08 F2F
        Some of the topics:
        • Common convention for operator alarm mailing lists
          • For CERN, -> vo-operator-alarm@cern.ch; co-owned by experiment and IT; only list-members may post
          • For external sites; implement NIKHEF's solution
        • Dashboards: need clear agreement on what sites should look at (site view?)
        • Intervention notifications - including also 'transparent' ones...
        • Negotiation of site configuration for an experiment
          • Queue time limits
          • Shares
        • How do sites figure out what is going on?

Future WLCG Operations / VO Support - Panel Discussion
Following on from yesterday's discussion on EGI and the EGEE III transition, how do we prepare for the smooth transition to operations and VO / Applications Support in the late 2009 - 2012 era?

N.B. as this is a WLCG Workshop, the intent here is to understand things in terms of WLCG requirements and priorities, although clearly a solution compatible with EGI/NGI directions and applicable to other applications would be of interest!
